xmas logo Christmas Camp 2008 Review
I was very pleased with the 43 players that attended this camp and who came from all over the country.

The subjects of this camp were:

  1. For younger players - How To Play The Game
  2. For Older Players - Work On Tactics
  3. Goalkeepers - Specific Training,
Xmas Camp 2008
To get the most out of the players, I decided to split the players into 3 groups instead of the normal 2, this way we could focus on specific needs for the different levels of the individual players. The results were very good, especially on the last day when the training was put in to a game situation. I was impressed with the quality of the games and even more when players aged between 10 and 12 played man to man restricted and carousel manoeuvres to a very good standard.

I would like to thank you for all for the compliments paid by players and parents on the last day as well text and email messages that have been sent to me since, applauding the professionalism of the work done and the standard of improvement attained in the players.

I believe this was the best camp to date and my objective is to always try and improve the quality of the camp to ensure we can increase the standards of our players.

As in every camp we gave 2 training T-shirts to each player at the start.
As part of the presentation at the end of the camp, each player received a certificate and an England National Training T-Shirt in recognition of their attendance.
We also awarded the following special achievement prizes:
Kasia Parfitt - Player of the Camp (£100 Voucher) player

As most people are probably aware, one of my duties as the National Roller Hockey coach is to help promote the sport throughout the country. To that effect, I have been involved in the launch of the Whitcliffe Mount Roller Hockey Academy, which was officially launched on 20th September 2008.

Development Plans
I have now issued updated Development Plans and these are accessible here

Council Sports Development Officers
I have sent emails to most of the councils in the Southern Counties and I have met with:

Kent Council on 19th June, with Keith Allen and Aileen Barker, where we discussed ways for them to help us
and mainly they are prepared to write a plan on how to develop Roller Hockey in the area.

Southampton Council on 3rd July, where I met Lee Page, Development Officer. We had a very positive conversation regarding introducing Roller Hockey into schools and sports centres, using taster sessions.
Prior to starting this, I will need to send my CV and qualifications.

I am due to visit Test Valley Council on 8th July and Fareham Council on a date to be confirmed.

I have decided to try this way as letters have been sent to approximately 150 schools and I have not received any communication from them. Development Officers will give me the way in to Schools and Sports Centres.

You can read more about my plans here in my Annual Report.

Schools
My first session with Desborough School in Maidenhead took place on 15th May.
I am pleased to report that the enthusiasm was very high at the first session and I'm looking forward to the next session.

“All the pupils really enjoyed Carlos' coaching session.
He quickly established a good rapport with the students and gave them an excellent variety of activities to perform.
It was a superb introduction to roller hockey. We are all looking forward to the next session!”

Management
After three years of Managing the Schoolboys Debbie Pughe has decided to resign from this role to concentrate on her club and regional duties.
I would like to thank Debbie for the fantastic job she has done for us and wish her every success for the future.

Following Debbie's resignation I would like to announce that Keith Allen will become the Schoolboys Manager and Val Conroy will Manage the Juniors.
Dave Fothergill will continue to manage all the Ladies national teams as well as Ron Barker who will manage the Seniors.
